A DRIVER has appeared in court after he failed to stop for the police and assaulted an officer.
Alfie Newton, 24, was charged with failing to stop, failing to provide a sample, and assault by beating of an emergency worker.
Newton was driving an MG 6 through Ffarmers, near Llanwrda, on April 29. It was alleged that he failed to stop when signalled to do so by a police officer.

He was accused of assaulting a female police officer in Ffarmers, and then was alleged to have failed to provide a sample for analysis when required at Newtown Police Station whilst he was under investigation.
Newton, of Lammas Street in Carmarthen, pleaded guilty to each offence at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court.
He was sentenced to a one-year community order, as part of which he must complete 250 hours of unpaid work and 25 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
Newton was ordered to pay £85 in costs, a £114 surcharge and £50 in compensation to the officer. He was also banned from driving for three years.
