The Ammanford branch of the Royal British Legion has been given the freedom of the town.

On Thursday, September 5, a special event at the Dinefwr Indoor Bowling Centre recognised the legion's service that has bene in place for more than a century.

This was the first time Ammanford Town Council bestowed this honour.

Mayor Heulwen Howells carried out the ceremony and a framed, bilingual conferment was presented to branch president Major Kenneth Burton.

The Ammanford branch of the legion, originally formed on September 23, 1921, has accomplished many charitable and community activities.

It gained Royal status in September 1972.

The branch's merits include raising £19,000 in the 2023 poppy appeal.

The award ceremony was attended by the full council, civic dignitaries, and legion members.
