“She wants to turn pro one day and follow in the footsteps of local girls at her club. She’s training with other world champions at the velodrome, and she’s got big dreams. This was the first year she was eligible to compete, and she won.”

Alwena began cycling four years ago during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since then, Alwena has competed in national races across the UK and regularly trains at the Velodrome facility in Newport.

The Ysgol Bro Dinefwr student is currently coached by Evolution Performance Ltd and is a proud member of Velo Myrddin CC – a performance cycling club powered by Y Beic based in Carmarthenshire.

The club trains at Pembrey Circuit and Carmarthen Velodrome, with Alwena training three times per week.

Alwena owes her success to personal coach Owen Thomas, Rob, Tony and other coaches at Velo Myrddin who volunteer their time to provide her with high quality training every week.
