A consultant urologist has raised nearly £500 for the intensive care unit (ICU) at Glangwili Hospital.
Yeung Ng cycled the L'Etape du Tour de France on July 6, an event that allows amateur cyclists to experience a mountain stage of the Tour de France.
Mr Ng said: "This year, 16,000 cyclists from around the world attempted the Queen stage from Nice to Beuil, taking in four summits over 140km and a total ascent of 4,500m (15,000ft), finishing at the summit of the Col de la Couillole at 1,678m elevation.
"I completed the course in 8 hours 59 minutes, which was close to my target time, among just over 10,000 finishers.
"I raised the money for the ICU at Glangwili Hospital to say thank you for the expert and compassionate care my partner received when she was seriously ill last year."
The challenge also marked the culmination of his own recovery after sustaining a serious neck injury in 2022.
He said that it 'is a significant goal which I am proud to have achieved.'
Mr Ng added: "I was off the bike for 12 months and had spent the last six months training over 3,000 miles and climbing 200,000ft of elevation in preparation.
"I would like to thank the staff in ICU at Glangwili and friends from Bynea Cycle Club."
Nicola Llewellyn, head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, said: "We’d like to say a massive well done to Yeung on completing such an extraordinary challenge."
