A Carmarthenshire born man is raising funds for Hywel Dda University Health Board's diabetic unit.
Leigh Hughes, originally from Kidwelly, plans to climb to Mount Everest's Base Camp in April 2025.
This 12-day challenge is to raise money for the Hywel Dda diabetic service.
Mr Hughes, now living in Cardiff, aims to raise more than £20,000 for various charitable causes.
He will be joined by friends on the trek, which involves a vertical climb of more than 1,500 metres from Kathmandu to the Everest Base Camp.
Mr Hughes said: "My brother and two nieces have been looked after and monitored by the Hywel Dda Diabetic Service since they were very young, having developed Type 1 diabetes.
"The treatment of diabetes has developed significantly; however, there is still a long way to go, and any donations will go towards the continued work of the diabetic unit in Carmarthen."
Nicola Llewellyn, head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: "We’d like to say a massive thank you to Leigh for choosing to raise funds for the diabetic unit.
"We look forward to supporting you on your journey.
"The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive."
