A local Member of the Senedd has called for businesses and residents to work together to facilitate the Ammanford ‘masterplan.’
Adam Price, member for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, believes a group of local people should come together to identify the needs of the town and help create a ready-made plan for future funding opportunities.
This comes after Cllr Alun Lenny revealed at the last Carmarthenshire County Council meeting there is a plan in place to rejuvenate Ammanford.
Mr Price said: “Ammanford is a wonderful town and a fantastic place to live. But like all towns and cities across Wales, we need to be constantly improving to ensure that it remains a great place to live.
“We know that Carmarthenshire County Council would like to provide leisure facilities in the town centre and attract more market traders into the town.
“Town such as Llanelli and Carmarthen have Chambers of Trade and Business Improvement Districts – forums where local businesses have come together off their own backs to discuss areas for improvement in their towns.
“Unfortunately, there is no such business forum in Ammanford which would be able to influence the town’s direction.
“We also know that Carmarthenshire Council will shortly be starting work on developing the next iteration of its ‘Masterplan’ for Ammanford and we need to ensure that businesses and local residents are feeding into that process.”
Price believes residents have the enthusiasm and drive to make a positive difference to Ammanford, but claims a forum is needed to bring all the ideas together and figure out what of investment is needed.
He added: “I would certainly welcome anyone, from any political party and none, who may have a vision for our town to get in touch so that we can identify priorities for the town.”
Ammanford has seen many high street shops close in the last few years and it was recently reported the Ammanford Miners’ Theatre needs investment for better facilities.
