A history festival will take place in Llandeilo later this month.

The event, set for October 12, will be part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of Menter Dinefwr, which was established in 1999.

The festival will take the town back to the Victorian era, celebrating Llandeilo's story as a prosperous market centre.

A variety of activities will be held in Hengwrt and across Llandeilo, including a lively theatrical walk.

The walk will be a chance for attendees to take a step back in time, guided by a character from the past.

There will also be talks, an exhibition, a treasure hunt, and live music for visitors to enjoy.

In the evening, folk night and traditional Welsh dancing, or 'twmpath,' with Jac y Do and Dawnswyr Penrhyd will conclude the day.

The events can be booked in advance.

Owain Gruffydd, chief executive of Menter Dinefwr, said: "We look forward to welcoming you to Hengwrt during the autumn, to celebrate Menter Dinefwr's 25th anniversary.

"A host of activities have been organised to mark this special occasion, including a party with Siani Sionc, live performances, and an afternoon for all the family on October 5, with celebrations continuing into the following weekend with the History Festival on October 12.

"Come along and join us – everyone is welcome."

Shops in Llandeilo will also take part in the festival, with many competing for the title of Llandeilo’s Best Victorian-themed Window.

Attendees can join in the fun by dressing up in Victorian attire, with special awards for the best window and the best dressed.

Elen Jones, operational manager for heritage and the arts at Menter Dinefwr, said: "From medieval markets to the Victorian high street, the tradition of buying and selling has been central to life in Llandeilo for centuries.

"The Llandeilo History Festival will be an opportunity for people to literally walk the paths of by-gone days, so join us in your Victorian fancy dress to celebrate the history of this iconic market town."

A new bilingual escape room, 'Cell,' will be launched at Hengwrt on the day of the festival.

Developed in partnership with pupils from Ysgol Bro Dinefwr, the escape room is inspired by the history of Hengwrt as a former court and police headquarters.

The History Festival is supported by Carmarthenshire County Council's Ten Towns Events Fund and the UK Government's General Prosperity Fund.

It is also a part of the Hengwrt Heritage Centre project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
