Dog lovers in the Ammanford area are being offered the chance to enjoy top-class canine company without the cost - courtesy of Guide Dogs Cymru.

The charity is seeking volunteer fosterers to provide a loving home for a future guide dog as it completes its specialised training – usually about four to five months.

During this time, a member of staff will collect the dog from the volunteer’s home on weekday mornings and bring it back when training is finished for the day.

The arrangement leaves the fosterer free to get on with daily life and enjoy the dog’s company in the evenings and at weekends, and on the occasional weekday. All equipment, food and vet bills are paid.

Volunteer attraction co-ordinator for Guide Dogs Cymru, Jaye Connelly, said: “If you love dogs, but find your life is too hectic for a full-time pet, this is the ideal role for you. It fits well around work or the school run.

What’s more, this well-mannered dog won’t cost you a penny, as Guide Dogs covers the cost of all the food, vet care and equipment. You’ll also get full training and support from our team while you foster.”
