A proposed three-day long party in Ammanford next year is still to approved by the town council.

Ammanford Rugby Club has requested permission from the council to host the event, dubbed Party on the Pitch, on its rugby pitches in July 2025.

However, at a meeting of Ammanford Town Council last Monday (September 30), councillors decided to defer a decision to the next meeting while the town clerk gathers more information about the event.

Councillor Clare Hope said: “The impression I get is anyone who partakes will stay on sight. We don’t have the power to provide a campsite for the event. We don’t have the legal right.

“If they want to do it, it needs to be done in the licensed area of the rugby pitch.”

Mayor Heulwen Howells agreed, adding: “It depends where on the Rec. It’s for the people taking part to clarify. But a better plan is needed.”

Deputy mayor Calum Higgins said: “I would say there are certain areas where the party can take place, like the seconds rugby pitch for example. I can’t see a problem with tents there, but I don’t want vehicles there.”

Councillor Emyr John also said: “It could ruin the fair next year. But I’m happy for it to be in a fenced area.”
