A motorcycle racer from Ammanford finished first in a British Supersport Championship race last month (September 2024).
Lewis Jones competed at Donington Park in Derbyshire from Friday, September 27 to Sunday, September 29.
During the qualifiers, Lewis achieved his fastest ever lap time (1.33.760) round the track to go past the finishing flag in position nine, which put him in first position for the cup section of the race.
Lewis then won the cup section of the race and finished 22nd in the overall championship.
Lewis Jones Racing posted on Facebook: “Well, what a weekend we had at Donnington Park. We, as a team, were certainly left smiling from ear to ear with the progress made again.
“In Sunday's race our rider Lewis Jones came over the finish line in P25 and 3rd in the cup with the fastest lap time of the cup!
“None of this would ever be possible if it wasn’t for our amazing sponsors and supporters.
“A huge thank you to Rob and the family at Auto Scan Swansea.
“M&P Direct Ltd, Knox, CR Civil Engineering, Ocea Swimming Pool Covers, Slipscreens Ltd Compressor Solutions Ltd, Plexus Fire and Security, Karen and Steve Jones, R&G.
“Also, thanks to everyone who has bought clothing, flags and given envelopes of sponsorship to help along the way. No matter how much, every little helps!
“We are now on board a Triumph 765 and this has been a definite gelling period between our rider and the bike.
“Also, a thank you to everyone in the team for everything you did to get us through the weekend!”
For the competition, Lewis rode his new Triumph 765 which was only the second time he used this bike in the Bennetts British Superbike Championships.
The morning and afternoon warmups on Friday gave Lewis the chance to quicken lap times, become accustomed to the bike and see if there were any technical amendments needed before the race.
In the second race, Lewis started in position one for the cup and position 25 overall.
Despite getting off to a good start, a small incident cost Lewis ten places on the first lap and then going through an S bend to make up for lost time caused him to slip further down the rankings.
However, Lewis bounced back to reach eighth in the cup and 35 overall, before finishing the race third in the cup and 25th overall.
