A Halloween workshop and repair café will take place at an Ammanford venue next Wednesday (October 30).
At Cwmgors Community Hall on Cemetery Road, locals can bring household items for repair between 10am to 1pm and children can create customized Halloween masks from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
Cardiff University’s Fab Lab will be on hand to diagnose and fix items with a 3D printer, laser cutter and 3D scanner.
The university group will also help children create their Halloween horrors with the use of laser cutting, pens and paint.
A spokesperson from Fab Lab said: “In this area, warm welcome groups are important because there’s not many around. There aren’t much community activities at the moment. Therefore, the repair café and workshop are amazing initiatives.”
For the Halloween workshop, all children will need adult supervision and won’t directly handle laser cutters.
Meanwhile, the fixers at the repair café are skilled with electrical items, computer software and general DIY.
Upon entering the free event, you will be welcomed by the hosts, given a hot drink and provided with the opportunity to socialize with other visitors.
Cwmgors Repair Café is held on the last Wednesday of every month and residents can reserve a spot by emailing: louise@awel.coop.
The repair café is run by Awel Aman Tawe, a local community energy charity committed to tackling climate change.
The charity has developed a community wind farm, rooftop solar co-op and are involved in a range of climate change, art-based projects and education programmes in schools across South Wales.
Currently, the organisation is repurposing the old Cwmgors Primary School as a Zero-Carbon Arts, Education and Enterprise Centre -Hwb y Gors.
On November 27 from 1.30pm – 3.30pm, Fab Lab will return to Ammanford with a Christmas decoration workshop.
Hand-drawn creations will be transformed into a digital version and then laser-cut into shimmering card, vibrant acrylic or wood decorations for any Christmas tree.
