Carmarthenshire County Council is trialling a new home charging solution for electric vehicles (EVs).

The project, aimed at residents without off-street parking, follows a comprehensive study in 2023.

This study considered feedback from EV users, various departments, and disability groups, including representatives for the blind and wheelchair users.

The trial deploys the Kerbo Charge gully system, an innovative product showcased on Dragons' Den, which hides charging cables in pavement channels.

This prevents cables from cluttering public pathways.

The system provides a practical home-charging solution for EV owners without driveways.

On September 19, the first two trial sites were installed, with the remaining expected to be ready by the end of October.

Up to 10 locations will be tested in this phase, making Carmarthenshire County Council the first in Wales to run multi-site trials simultaneously.

Feedback and data collected will assess the scalability of these solutions for county-wide adoption.

The Welsh Government, through Transport for Wales, funds the project via the Ultra Low Emission Vehicle Transformation Fund (ULEVTF).

This fund is specifically for EV infrastructure and is awarded through a national bidding process.

The council is seeking additional funding to extend the project and explore further on-street charging options.

Councillor Edward Thomas, cabinet member for transport, waste, and infrastructure services, said: "We are excited to expand the availability of electric vehicle charging solutions to more residents across Carmarthenshire.

"This trial is a key part of our efforts to make EV adoption easier and more accessible to those without off-street parking, and we're looking forward to seeing the impact across multiple sites."
