A couple who began managing an Ammanford pub this year have revealed the ‘friendly atmosphere’ since their takeover.
Tim Phillips and Charlotte Hussell have now run The Old Cross Inn for over six months.
After taking the pub’s reins, the couple vowed to create a social hub and bring more locals to town.
Tim said: “Things have been going great. The pub is filled with a great bunch of locals, and we have a range of people coming in. We have been here for six months. There is a good atmosphere, and everybody knows each other in the pub.
“Since we started running the pub, it’s become a bit more of a local hub. People come here to meet up with their friends and meet new people. We have made the pub more friendly.
“We currently offer a happy hour Monday to Thursday from 6pm – 9pm where there is a 20% discount on all drinks. Our Sunday lunch with a drink is going for £12.95. All our prices have come down and we’re taking a cut to give customers better value.
“In the lead up to Christmas, every Saturday in December were putting on a breakfast with Santa for children and families.”
Tim and Charlotte originally moved from Northampton before deciding to run The Old Cross Inn, Ammanford.
The couple have a track record of turning pub’s around, previously transforming a pub in Northampton from a quiet place to somewhere people would socialise.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, several businesses in Ammanford have closed and some locals are reluctant to go out.
However, the pair want to reverse this trend by making pubs popular again.
The Old Cross Inn is dog-friendly, so families are welcome to bring their pet while enjoying a meal.
Sunday lunch at the pub includes a selection of pork, turkey, beef, mushroom or walnut roast, served with seven different vegetables along with roast potatoes, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and homemade gravy.
Earlier this month, a Facebook user named Tracey Jones left the following recommendation:
“I had a lovely meal here today. Edwin had the ham, egg and chips. The ham was nice and thick, and the eggs were perfectly cooked.
“I had chilli con carne, loaded fries and onion rings which I can say was absolutely lush. I’m just sorry I could not eat it all. I highly recommend Tim and Charlotte, 10/10.”
