An Ammanford racer was forced to withdraw from the 2024 British Superbike Championships following a crash on October 12.

Lewis Jones rode at the Brands Hatch GP Circuit in Longfield and set a personal best during the free practice, finishing day one of the combined practice in position 32 and sixth in class.

However, in the second qualifying session the rainy conditions caused Lewis to lose control of his Triumph motorbike.

“At the start of the second qualifying session, the heavens opened, making the conditions very tricky. Lewis came off the bike at a clearway. Lewis is a little sore and wasn’t able to get out in today’s race.”

Lewis suffered a foot-ankle injury and was deemed unfit to take part in the feature race.

He was also forced to pull out of the remaining races in the 2024 season.

Lewis Jones Racing added on Facebook: “Unfortunately Lewis wasn’t able to race today. Following on from a visit to the medical centre this morning. A shame to end the year this way.

“Everyone at the team would like to thank all the sponsors & supporters for their help this season.”

The crash came after Lewis produced one of his best performances in the previous race at Donnington Park.

Lewis competed in Derbyshire from Friday, September 27 to Sunday, September 29 and ended up finishing first in the cup section of the race and finished 22nd in the overall championship.

Meanwhile, during the qualifiers, Lewis attained his fastest ever lap around the track with a lap time of 1.33.760.

It was in this competition when Lewis rode his new Triumph 765 which was only the second time he used this bike in the Bennetts British Superbike Championships.

Lewis had the morning and afternoon warmups to become accustomed to the bike and see if there any technical amendments needed before the race.

In the second race, Lewis started in position one for the cup and position 25 overall.

Despite a small incident slowing him down, Lewis bounced back to reach eighth in the cup and 35 overall, before finishing the race third in the cup and 25th overall.

Numerous sponsors support Lewis Jones such as Auto Scan Swansea, M&P Direct Ltd, Knox, Shark Helmets, Compressor Solutions Ltd, R&G, Plexus Fire and Security and more.
