A MAN was found with a kitchen knife in Ammanford town centre just days after assaulting a police officer.

Mark Tomlinson, 58, of High Street in Ammanford, appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court charged with three offences from two separate incidents in February.

The court heard that Tomlinson assaulted a male police officer in the town on February 12.

Days later, on February 16, he was found to have been armed with a kitchen knife on High Street in Ammanford.

He was charged with assault by beating of an emergency worker, as well as having a knife in a public place and affray.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the offence against the police officer at Newport Magistrates’ Court on October 24, having already admitted the knife offences in May.

Tomlinson was jailed for a total of six months. This was made up of six months for each the February 16 offences, running concurrently, and three months, also running concurrently, for the attack on the police officer.

He must also pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £154, and a forfeiture and destruction order was made in relation to the knife.
