A successful reopening of Llandovery Cinema took place last month, with a new screening to be held later in November.

The community came together at the Rhys Prichard Memorial Hall for a Humanity Day Gathering, which included a screening of Greta Thunberg's short film #ForNature and the classic Casablanca.

This event was made possible with funding from Cinema for All, BFI Film Institute, Film Forever, and the National Lottery Community Fund.

Special appreciation was given to Jill Tatman, Isis Mera, and Valerie Wood-Gaiger, who were instrumental in the organisation.

Tiago Gambogi, Llandovery community activities support coordinator, said: "We’re delighted by the community’s response to our reopening.

"Our goal is to keep building on this energy, bringing residents together through cinema."

The next film to be shown at the cinema will be Thelma (2024), a comedy featuring June Squibb in her first leading role at 94.

The film also stars Clark Gregg, Fred Hechinger, and Parker Posey, and will be screened on November 23.

The event on this date will start at 5.30pm, with a shared meal at 6pm before the film begins at 7pm.

Tickets are priced at £5 and are available online or in person at the Llandovery Youth and Community Centre (LYCC).

Advance booking is recommended, although tickets may also be available on the day.

Mr Gambogi encouraged residents to make film suggestions and to consider volunteering with LYCC, where they can earn Tempo Time Credits, which can be used for rewards.

He said: "We welcome film suggestions, so please reach out with any ideas.

"And if you’d like to volunteer with LYCC, you can earn Tempo Time Credits, which can be used for rewards."

The Llandovery Cinema team invites everyone to join the next screening, asking them to bring along friends and a dish to share, and to experience the magic of community cinema.
