Mowgli Street Food invited me to try its new Christmas feasting menu and it was a great opportunity to try something alternative to the traditional Christmas dinner of Turkey, roasties and veg.
Mowgli has two restaurants in Wales, in Bridgend and Cardiff, I opted for the Cardiff venue for my evening out.
The popular restaurants are well-known for its swinging seats and stunning décor and serves up tasty fresh Indian food in traditional tiffins full of flavour and spice.
The Christmas feasting menu is priced at £35 per person and runs until January 5.
I went along with my friend on a busy Friday night in Cardiff.
Once off the bustling streets and into the venue, we were greeted with a smiling face and a very relaxed and cosy atmosphere.
To start we were given a glass of prosecco and a bottle of beer for my friend, along with their well-known yoghurt chat bombs to share. These amazing little puffs of crisp bread are filled with chickpeas, spiced yoghurt, tamarind and coriander and are a must try. It is an explosion of tastes in your mouth.
For starters we opted for the gunpowder chicken and fenugreek kissed fries. They were both full of flavour and just the right amount of spice for us.
For mains there is a selection of tiffins of meat and vegetable curry options with rice. I went for the Office Worker’s Tiffin and was given a delicious curry full of flavour that were a real treat for the tastebuds, along with tea steeped chickpeas in a rich Darjeeling spiced tomato and spinach sauce.
My friend opted for the veggie option, his favourite was the picnic potato curry – potatoes tossed in fenugreek tomato and Bengali five spice. He would have preferred something a little spicier, but enjoyed it all the same.
For dessert I devoured a chocolate brownie with ice-cream and my friend went for the sorbet, served in a cone. He said he would have preferred it in a bowl. Both were delicious and a great end to the meal.
If you’re looking for a Christmas-themed menu, then this isn’t for you. But it was a great alternative and a good opportunity to try out something new with the sharing menu with friends.
It made a nice change from the usual Christmas night out.
