A woman accused of stabbing to death her mother's partner told a police surgeon she had been taking a cocktail of drugs, a jury heard today.

Shortly after her arrest Maxine Williams told Dr Peter Skoda she was taking heroin daily, smoking five or six cannabis "joints" a day and also taking diazapan and a strong painkiller.

She also claimed to be drinking "large quantities" of alcohol daily.

Williams, aged 22, also told him she had been depressed since the age of seven and had tried to harm herself on several occasions.

Dr Skoda told Swansea crown court he had been called to Carmarthen police station to medically assess Williams' condition shortly after she had been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Bernard Evans in the early hours of January 22.

Mr Evans, aged 42, died from a knife wound after an incident at the home of Williams' mother, Julie, in Pantyffynnon Road, Ammanford.

The prosecution claim that Williams deliberately stabbed him in the stomach and while an ambulance was on its way threatened to eat his body.

Williams, of Pembrey, denies murder and the case continues.
