COUNTY councillors have demanded a second look at plans for a housing estate on the junction of a busy Gorslas road.

Members of the planning committee are unhappy about an application for nine houses at the junction of Black Lion Road and Gorsddu Road.

And they have called for a traffic impact assessment to gauge the effect new homes would have on notorious troublespots Gorslas Square and Capel Hendre Square.

Cllr John Edwards said: “People are really getting cross about the traffic going through their village. More traffic goes through here than travels on a lot of trunk roads in Wales.”

And – noting that Llandybie community councillors had objected – Cllr Ken Rees expressed concern that their views had been “brushed aside”.

He was told it was not the officers job to go through the report ‘line by line’.

But the biggest opposition came from Cllr Terry Davies who said he feared an application for more houses at the site.

“This is a complete nonsense – there’s only one road going into that plot and this application is for only nine houses,” he said.

And he warned that by allowing a second development of fewer than 10 houses the council would not be able to claim Section 106 money, which the developer must set aside for local amenities.

He said: “I am afraid we could end up with 18 houses here and we will not get a penny. We could find ourselves losing out again.”

The committee agreed to defer the application.
