CAPEL HENDRE residents are taking action this week in an effort to clean up their estate and stamp out anti-social behaviour.

The week-long blitz, which started on Monday and will run through until Saturday, is part of the Cleaner, Greener, Safer Streets project.

Both young and old alike are being urged to play their part in a list of activities to make their community a better place to live by improving the environment.

Anti-social behaviour workshops will be taking place with both schoolchildren and the local youth club with representatives from the Community Safety Partnership, Dyfed-Powys Police, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Keep Wales Tidy taking part.

The workshop will include a discussion on anti-social behaviour and its impact on the community, a DVD on how anti-social behaviour is tackled in Carmarthenshire, and an anti-social behaviour quiz.

The police will be offering free crime prevention checks to householders and will be holding a property marking day so that residents can take valuables along to be marked.

Fly-tipping and graffiti hotspots will be targeted and cleaned and schoolchildren and residents will be carrying out litter picks.

A waste amnesty is to be held on Saturday between 8.30am and 10.30am so that householders in Capel Hendre can get rid of any rubbish they have lying around the home for free. A collection point will be set up in Bancyddraenen and most household waste can be taken along including bulky waste items such as furniture and electrical goods.

Local youngsters will also be filmed helping to clear a rubbish blackspot for an S4C television programme called Gobyldigwyrdd and then making something useful from the rubbish.

Cleaner, Greener, Safer Streets is an initiative involving the Community Safety team, Carmarthenshire County Council and Dyfed-Powys Police.
