An Ammanford welder caught drink-driving on a night out was told by town magistrates that his actions had been “incredibly silly”.
Andrew Stuart Jones, of Cwmaman Road, had been drinking at the Old Cross Inn in Ammanford on July 18 this year, when his friends decided to go to a night-club.
Jones, who had already downed five pints of larger, was not dressed to go to a club and so decided to go home and change before meeting up with his friends, the court heard.
The 19-year-old drove his moped to Pontarddulais Road, Tycroes, where he crashed the bike at around midnight.
Jones was arrested and had a blood test taken which showed he was nearly twice the legal limit of permitted alcohol.
The teenager admitted the offence of driving a motor vehicle with excess alcohol and said he was lucky the accident had not been more serious.
Ammanford magistrates told Jones his actions had been “incredibly silly”, as he had no control over the moped, and that not only was he lucky not to have hurt himself, but he was also lucky that no-one else was injured.
Jones was fined £140 and given an 18-month ban from driving.
He was also ordered to pay £60 prosecution costs and £15 victims’ surcharge.
