PARENTS and staff of Llansadwrn school turned out in force for a special celebration concert to mark the success of the campaign to keep the village school open.
The concert at the Sexton’s Arms starring leading Welsh folk singer Heather Jones also raised over £900 for school funds.
Speaking after the event, chair of the governors Dr Christine Jones, said: “The evening was a great success. As well as raising valuable funds for the school it was an opportunity to say thank you to everyone who supported the campaign to keep the school open.
“The fact that tickets sold out so quickly shows how important the school is to the community and we hope that we will be here for many years to come.”
The concert also featured the Ysgol Llansadwrn violin trio and recorder group, local singer Simon Hickman and Jude, Christa, Graham and Paul, all members of local Bluegrass music group.
As well as a wide variety of music there were speeches from president of the evening, Professor Peter Banks, Christine Jones and Aled Davies from Cymdeithas i’r Iaith, all of whom strongly emphasised the importance of maintaining small schools in rural communities and the high quality of education provided.
