FROZEN food specialists Farm Foods look set to be the latest big-name company to join the Pontardawe revolution after agreeing to take up the last remaining unit on the former Somerfield site — bringing around 20 jobs in the process.
The news was revealed this week and the firm’s decision to move to the Swansea Valley is another boost to Neath Port Talbot Council’s plans to redevelop Parc Ynysderw.
The site already hosts Focus DIY, Poundstretcher and Argos and the arrival of Farm Foods now ensures that every unit on the site is filled.
Delighted Ponty councillor Mike James told the Guardian he was excited by the new arrival.
“It’s another bit of good news for the town,” he said.
“I certainly welcome Farm Foods’ arrival. They are specialists in the frozen food market and I’m delighted they are taking the final unit on the former Somerfield site.
“Of course they will also be bringing new jobs to the area and I think there will be 20 or 30 vacancies.”
Cllr James said he was elated with the early success of the stores currently at the site.
“Every time I’m over there, it seems to be busy,” he added.
A planning application has been submitted to Neath Port Talbot Council for signage to be installed at the site before the store’s opening.
