Maxine Williams ran in tears from the dock at Swansea Crown Court yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) after being found guilty of murdering Bernard Evans at his Ammanford home.
Following a three-week trial, the jury returned a unanimous verdict after hearing how the 22-year-old, from Pembrey, stabbed her mothers boyfriend to death at his home in Pantyffynnon Road.
The judge, Mr Justice Nigel Davis, said he would be recommending a life sentence when the court reconvenes this morning. (Wednesday).
Williams, who told police Evans had been violent towards her mother Julie ,had declined to enter the witness box to explain precisely what her motivations were.
At various stages during police interviews, he added, she had maintained that she had not meant to hurt Mr Evans, aged 42, and that she had stabbed him accidentally while trying to stop him from attacking her.
But in other accounts she said she had been planning to kill him for months because he had been repeatedly violent towards her mother.
Mr Justice Davis had earlier reminded the jury she said during one interview, “I’ve been tasting blood for weeks.”
The judge had said the jury might find the interviews revealing. She told police she was guilty of murder “but almost in the same breath” that it had been an accident.
Mr Evans bled to death after being stabbed once in the arm.
Williams had denied murder.
