Pupils at Penygroes Primary School have proved that they know how to tackle anti-social behaviour by winning first place in a workshop quiz.
The workshop, which is run by the Community Safety Partnership, gave pupils from Penygroes, Blaenau, Llandybie, Saron and Tycroes primary schools the opportunity to discuss the affects of anti-social behaviour on the community.
The workshop was held as part of the Cleaner Greener Safer Streets initiative and was taken by Malcolm Heath from the Community Safety Team, Dylan Evans from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Daniel Snaith from Keep Wales Tidy and Nicola Davies from the county council road safety unit.
The youngsters were also shown a DVD which outlined Carmarthenshire’s four-stage process for tackling anti-social behaviour. The process was explained to the pupils.
The workshop culminated with an anti-social behaviour quiz which was a closely fought contest and had to be decided with a tie-breaker.
WH Smith vouchers totalling £200, funded by the Fire and Rescue Services Branch of the Welsh Assembly Government’s Community Safety Division, were up for grabs as prizes.
First place winners Penygroes School received £60 worth of vouchers, second place went to pupils from Blaenau who won £50 in vouchers, Saron finished third and received £40 in vouchers. Tycroes and Llandybie schools won the remaining £50 worth of vouchers. Prizes were presented by Saron head teacher Gwenda Easton and PCSO Alan Davies from the Neighbourhood Policing Team.
