EFFORTS to clean up a Capel Hendre housing estate have been caught on camera.
Residents young and old got their hands dirty as part of the big blitz at Bancyddraenen recently.
The clean-up marked the end of a week of activities to improve the environment and reduce anti-social behaviour in the area, as part of the Cleaner, Greener, Safer Streets project.
A waste amnesty was held and householders got rid of 11 tonnes of rubbish.
A local skip company removed a derelict portable cabin which had been a longstanding eyesore for residents — and that was after it had been emptied of rubbish including two fridge-freezers!
Locals then set to work to give the nearby community cabin a facelift.
A number of litter picks also took place throughout the day targeting the local park and the King George Playing Fields.
Councillors Peter Cooper and John Edwards also rolled up their sleeves, and council youth workers, housing officers and the community safety team gave a helping hand.
All their hard work was caught on camera by Calon TV for S4C children’s television show Gobyldigwyrdd.
A county council spokesman said the clean-up was just the start of things to come with a number of positive changes planned for the area.
Hugh Evans, executive board member for housing, said: “A lot of good work is taking place in Capel Hendre to improve the quality of life for residents.”
