A CYCLIST has been killed after colliding with a car at a notorious Capel Hendre junction.
The man, who is local and believed to be in his 60's, is understood to have died of head injuries following the accident at 10.40am.
An eyewitness said: "I don't know if his brakes failed but he must have been going at quite a speed because the forks on his bike broke off on impact.
"Although he was wearing a safety helmet he was knocked unconscious and could not be revived by police or ambulance personnel."
A police spokeswoman said: "I can confirm that a cyclist has sadly died after colliding with a stationary car at Capel Hendre Square this morning.
"As a result Saron Road was closed for quite some time."
