ONE of Ammanford’s most highprofile councillors is quitting local politics.
Hugh Evans, who has held Pantyffynnon seat on Carmarthenshire County Council for Labour since 1995, is standing down at next May’s local elections.
“It’s been a very difficult decision but I feel it’s time to move on and I want to spend more time with my family, particularly my grandchildren,” Cllr Evans, 66, told the Guardian.
A former member of Dinefwr Borough Council, Cllr Evans has been an Ammanford town councillor since 1990.
The former coal miner has twice been mayor of Ammanford, was involved with the scouting movement for over 20 years and helped set up the Ammanford Youth Council in 1998.
