A TOWY Valley woman who has made it her mission to shine a spotlight on the workings of County Hall is in the running for a prestigious media award.

Jacqui Thompson, of Llanwrda, has been shortlisted in the Welsh Blog Awards 2012 for her Carmarthen Planning website, which has questioned the decision- making and workings of the county council.

Jacqui, aged 49, began her blog after the county council took the incredible decision to rewrite its own constitution and introduce a clause allowing the authority to fund the legal costs of its own officers who wished to sue taxpayers – the only council in the UK to do so.

Jacqui’s blog has since gained a huge following – and its popularity has not gone unnoticed.

Of more than 300 blogs nominated for the People’s ChoiceAward – which is voted for by members of the public – Jacqui’s has made the final shortlist of fewer than 30.

The awards – the brainchild of Cardiffbased Warwick Emmanual PR – look to support and promote a wide variety of blogs from across Wales highlighting people’s interests, thoughts and concerns.

The awards are currently in their third year. The People’s Choice Award is a special category, voted for by members of the public.

Voting closes at 5pm on Friday, September 14.

The awards ceremony is due to take place on Thursday, September 20, at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff with ITV Wales’ political editor, Adrian Masters, as presenter.
