The weekend saw the Wildboar Centurions travel to Dunvant to play Waunarlwydd Cricket Club.
The Centurions were looking to make it 3 wins from 3 and continue their good form. Despite Waunarlwydd objecting to an away umpire, the Centurions won the toss and elected to field.
Due to Waun’s early approach, this fired up the Centurions bowling attack. Runs were very difficult to get away, mainly down to very tight and accurate bowling from the away side.
Some fine bowling from Carwyn Morris, who took 1 for 15 and Phil Jones 3 for 25. The Centurions then introduced Jason Rosser and Guy Brennen to clean up the home side. Both taking 2 for 20 and 4 for 22 respectfully.
Waun closed on 88 all out, off 30.5 overs.
With the Centurions needing 89 to win, Jonathan Edwards and Dale Westcott opened the batting in the hope to get the job done early. Unfortunately, Westcott was caught for just 7 runs.
Edwards was joined at the crease by Neil Howe, who supported Edwards for several overs, only to get caught behind scoring a cameo, 3.
The runs started to come fluently for Edwards who was join by Fraser Benjamin. Both batsmen didn’t give an inch and chased down the runs, Edwards scoring a fine 42 not out and Benjamin wasn’t wasting any time, scoring 28 not out.
Centurions finished on 89 for 2 off 20.5 overs. The away side won by 8 wickets.
With no league game next Saturday. The Centurions have two home games the following week when they will play Tata Steel 4th - on Saturday, July 10 - in the league and Dyffryn 1sts in the Intermediate cup on Sunday, July 11.
Wildboar Centurions Women travelled to Ynystawe on Sunday, to play in a softball festival. The girls were led by Cath Jones and enjoyed the day out. Winning one game and losing the other.
Next Sunday is the South Wales Women's Softball League. The ladies travel to Pontardawe to take on Clydach and Bronwydd.
