ACC v Bridgend

Ammanford continued their climb up the table with a fine 37 run win against Bridgend at the Park on Saturday.

Winning the toss, skipper Alun Evans decided the best option in the midday heat was to bat first.

It seemed the wrong choice as Ammanford lost two quick wickets with just 12 on the board.

But an innings defining partnership of 86 between Dan Roberts (62) and Rhys Huw Davies (27) gave the home side some momentum which would prove crucial during the course of the game.

None of the subsequent batsmen were really able to make an impression and Ammanford were all out in the energy-sapping sunshine for 164 inside 42 overs.

Dan Roberts maintained his influence on the match by picking up two early wickets to leave Bridgend in early trouble on 25 for 2.

It was however the introduction of Matthew Fisher to the attack which turned the game dramatically in Ammanford’s favour.

He took four wickets in three overs to leave Bridgend reeling at 74 for 8.

A late rally from Lewis Cogbill (32) and Luke Humphries (19) gave Bridgend a glimmer of hope, but Fisher extinguished it by having Humphries very smartly stumped by Rhodri Davies, one of four victims for the keeper.

Fisher finished with 5 for 37 as Bridgend were tumbled out for 127 inside 35 overs.

Ammanford are now in sixth position, though only 19 points separate the bottom five teams.

Next week they travel to St Helen’s to take on joint second placed Swansea.

Ammanford second XI

An excellent unbeaten century from skipper Jamie Evans helped Ammanford to an emphatic 98 run victory away to Swansea.

Other contributions from opener Eirian Morgan (43), Ben Ledger (37) and Osian Jones (26) helped Ammanford reach a formidable 264 for 7 after their 50 overs.

A defiant unbeaten 60 from Swansea skipper Keri Chahal was not enough to halt Ammanford’s bowlers working their way through the Swansea innings with 15 overs to spare.

Swansea were all out for 166. There were three wickets for Sam Potter, while Llyr Morgan, Matthew Warnes and Cian Roach took a couple each.

ACC third XI v Briton Ferry Steel

AMMANFORD thirds rounded off a superb weekend for the club with a convincing 8 wicket win over Briton Ferry seconds in the second round of the SWCA Intermediate Cup.

Winning the toss and batting first, BFS lost wickets steadily on their way to a solid 126 for 7 in their 20 overs.

Cian Roach bowled well for his figures of 2 for 13, supported by Sion Lloyd Evans (2-21) and Iwan Matthews (3-39).

Roach continued his fine form into the batting, scoring 33 in an opening partnership of 63 with Jake Lewis made 52no., who closed out the game with the help of Josh Davies (18) and Steffan Wyn Williams (16no).
