Local teenager motorcycle racer Lewis Jones continued his attack on the Pirelli National Junior Superstock Championship at the eighth round of British Superbikes, this time from the old Airfield circuit at Snetterton in Norfolk.
Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk blends a challenging and complex layout with fast straights to create a unique challenge for all competitors and Lewis was no exception.
Friday morning saw the weather playing a part in the proceedings when everyone woke to a vale of fog across the circuit, which resulted in a revised timetable for the day, reducing sessions to 20 minutes each.
After a Friday morning fog, free practice one got underway and Lewis got straight down to business.
As the damp track dried, things got tricky and he crossed the line in 10th place overall, but said he was happy with the way the bike was feeling.

Free practice two then turned out to bring very greasy conditions for Lewis, who said: “I found the bike was spinning in fourth gear and I couldn't get any heat in the tyres, but I had nothing to prove in this session so at least I gained a feel of it if the conditions turn out to be the same for qualifying or race day.”
With only one session on Saturday, there was everything to play for in qualifying. The conditions were sketchy again, but Lewis felt it went well and was on a good lap on his last one of the session when he made a small mistake in the last sector, resulting in him qualifying in 11th for the race on Sunday.
Lewis continued: “On lap one in turn two, a rider crashed in front of me resulting in me loosing a few positions, this gave me a little work to do as it pushed me back to 21st place, but I kept my focus, worked away and slowly got some places back.
“Again I consistently did better lap times here than last year’s visit (1.56.756), so I’m really pleased with that and I finished the race in the points again in 13th.
“I've lost a place overall in the championship going down to 13th, so there’s a lot of work to do in the next three rounds to gain more points, so I can hopefully target to finish in the top ten of the championship.”
