The 2023 triathlon season in Carmarthenshire began at Amman Valley Leisure Centre and the surrounding area.
The latest edition of the Amman Valley Sprint Triathlon was celebrating its 10th anniversary event on Sunday.
It was organised by Healthy Life Activities in partnership with Actif Sport and Leisure and Sharks Swim Shop.
More than 250 competitors registered, with approximately 100 of them taking part in their first-ever triathlon competition.
In ideal conditions, triathletes completed a 400m pool swim before setting off on a 16km bike ride to Garnant.
The 5km run was the third discipline along the cycle path before heading back to the leisure centre where they received their finishers medal.
The overall male winner was Rhys Palmer from Swansea Vale Tri in 51:10 followed by Johnathan Price (West Wales fitness coaching - 53:53) and Sam Bowring (Port Talbot Harriers - 54:56).
Rachel Davies from the local club, Ammanford Triathlon and Cycling Club, was the first overall female to finish in 58:37 with Bethan Jones (Tri Potential – 59:15) and Cathryn Williams (Port Talbot Harriers - 1:00:26) in second and third respectively.
Another milestone will be reached on Bank Holiday Monday, May 1, as the Carmarthen Mayor’s Races will be staged for the 40th time.
The 3-loop 5K run for seniors, along with schoolchildren in year 9 and above will begin the day’s action at 10am.
It will be followed by a series of children’s races, ranging from those in nursery through to primary school and year 7 and 8 ages.
The weekend of May 12 to 14 will see the return of the Llanelli Multi-Sport Festival at North Dock. Sospan Charity Swim, Llanelli Junior Duathlon, British Super Series Sprint Triathlon, Llanelli ParaTriathlon and the Llanelli Sprint Triathlon will all take place during a busy three-day event.
The latter is a Welsh sprint championship and the first race of the 2023 Welsh Super Series this season.
