Ammanford CC came out the wrong side of a relegation battle when they lost by 4 wickets to Port Talbot Town at the New Mansel.
Batting first, Ammanford got off to a poor start, losing both openers to Port Talbot's Lewis Jones (2-34) with just 28 on the board.
However, a third wicket partnership of 72 between Gruffudd Owen (36) and Xavier Clarke (69) steadied the ship, providing a platform that was ably built on by Rhys-Huw Davies (44) and Fahad Sabir (35).
Ammanford's total of 227 seemed perfectly respectable but the feeling pertained among their supporters that it may not be enough on a good track and fast outfield.
And so it proved.
In contrast to Ammanford, Port Talbot's openers got off to a flyer, scoring at nearly 8 an over, and they were 87 from 12 overs when their first wicket fell.
The opening stand between Barney Huxtable (73) and Liam Davies (25) took the pressure off the remainder of Port Talbot's batting order, and modest contributions, including 30 from keeper Archie Johnson, were all that were required for Port Talbot to reach victory with 10 overs to spare.
It was Port Talbot's first victory of the season in any competition, and the win took them 3 points clear of bottom team Neath. Ammanford's 8 points kept them 6 precarious points clear of the relegation zone.
Things don't get any easier next week when Ammanford welcome third placed Newport to the Park.
Meanwhile Ammanford Thirds had a miserable time of it at the Rec, losing by 5 wickets to visiting Bryn in a low scoring match.
Ammanford were all out for 65 in 22 overs, opener and captain Steve Hagget being the only batter to reach double figures with 19.
Russell Davies (4-25) and Robert Thomas (3-2) did the damage for Bryn.
Despite a valiant effort from opening bowler Oliver Pallot (3-27), Bryn needed only 13 overs to pass Ammanford's score for the loss of 5 wickets.
