THERE are plans for storage buildings to be built on the site of an old Ammanford colliery.

The plans would see eight storage or light industrial units built at Roberts Concrete on Coopers Road, Ammanford, the former site of the Lindsay Colliery. The storage units will be used by small businesses for storage with the aim of helping said businesses.

It is proposed that these storage units will replace one larger unit and there will be associated parking comprising of 16 spaces.

The Coal Authority highlights that the application site is partially in the defined Development High Risk Area (DHRA) as it lies in an area of ‘outcropping coal seams’ that may have been worked previously. The authority highlights that workings can pose a risk of ground instability and could give rise to the emission of mine gases.

The authority does note that the proposed buildings will be located in a low risk area which is outside the DHRA, but the parking provision will be inside the DHRA but as this will be using an existing hard standing area, there is no need for a coal mining risk assessment.

The Coal Authority provides no objections to the application but advises that if it is approved, there is specific wording included which will include the need to get written permission from the Coal Authority for any ‘intrusive’ activities which could disturb or enter coal seams, coal mine workings or coal mine entries.
