Ammanford showed commendable tenacity in beating Neath by 9 runs in a low scoring match at the Gnoll.

Neath won the toss and invited Ammanford to bat on a slow wicket.

Runs were hard to come by with the ball not coming through and Neath's bowling proving extremely parsimonious.

Even Glamorgan's Tom Bevan (20), Ammanford's first allocation of the season, struggled to find runs.

Xavier Clarke looked his usual confident self until he was bowled for 13.

At 52 for 7, Ammanford looked as though they wouldn't get to 70, but Fahad Sabir (21) gave the total a late boost.

He was helped by young Cian Roach (12) who played an impressive anchor role in difficult conditions.

Ammanford were all out for 100 in 34 overs.

For Neath, Sean Griffiths (2-12), Aizaz Ahmed (2-23) and Vinayak Vijay (2-20) bowled very well.

Neath at the interval must have been looking forward to their first win of the season, but a wicket in the first over dented their optimism.

Then man of the match Fahad Sabir bowled a remarkable spell of 10 overs which contained 4 wickets and 5 maidens to make that dent a deep depression.

Resistance was shown by Cameron Bamford (20), Joe Parkhouse (20) and Scott Matthews (15), but all Ammanford's bowlers and fielders stuck to their tasks and with Saihaj Jaspal picking up 2 wickets at the end with his first spell of the season, Neath were all out for 92 in 31 overs.

The 9 run victory pulled Ammanford 16 points clear of the danger zone, and they will hope to capitalise on that on Saturday when they welcome new Premier 1 arrivals Pentyrch to the Park for the first time.

Ammanford second XI

Ammanford seconds went top of the table when they beat visiting Mumbles by 45 runs at the Park.

A century partnership between skipper Carl Griffiths (42) and Benjamin Thomas (53) provided the foundation for Ammanford's innings, built on by an unbeaten half century from Alun Evans (64no).

Ammanford reached 211 for 5 in their 45 overs.

Despite a solid 79 from E Oates, the Mumbles batsmen were unable to keep up with the clock and were all out for 166 in the final over.

Hari Lloyd was chief wicket taker with 3 for 30 while Benjamin Thomas and Llyr Morgan picked up a couple each.

Ammanford third XI

Ammanford thirds moved up to third place in SWCA division 7 with a massive 238 run victory over Porthcawl.

Ammanford scored a record 344 for 5 in their 40 overs, thanks to a century from opener Steve Hagget, supported by an unbeaten 89 from Tom Roach.

A battered Porthcawl could only manage 106 in reply.
