A historic Ammanford pub could become homes under plans submitted to Carmarthenshire County Council.
The Red Kite Inn, formerly known as The Perrivale Inn on Pontamman Road, could be replaced by two three-bedroom houses and a further two two-bedroom houses if planners give the proposal the green light.
The existing site has been vacant since February 1, 2023.
The application to turn the historic building into housing has been met with disappointment by Ammanford Town Council.
Commenting on the planning application, a spokesperson for Ammanford Town Council said it "wishes to express its sadness in seeing another local amenity which has served the community being lost.”
Councillor Anthony Jones proposed the council make such a comment regarding the development at its most recent meeting, a motion seconded by Councillor Marie Griffiths.
The proposed development by Mr R Stuart does not involve the construction of a new building and does not require the employment of any staff.
Welsh Water issued no objection with the conditions that no surface water from any increase in the roof area of the building is allowed to drain directly or indirectly to the public sewerage system.
Meanwhile, Highways Planning Liaison from Carmarthenshire County Council has laid down a number of conditions for planning permission to be granted.
These include ensuring that vehicles can access the site at all times, making sure the gradient of any access road to the development does not exceed ten per cent.
The Red Kite Inn was popular among locals and visitors alike when it was open, with an average rating of 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor based on 412 reviews.
Of particular praise was the pub's Sunday carvery, with one reviewer describing the good as "lovely and tasty".
It said: "Huge portions of slow cooked meat, really good cauliflower cheese too. The staff are really friendly and couldnt' do enough for us."
A decision on whether the redevelopment of the historic building can go ahead will be made by planners at a later date.
The full application for the development can be found on the Carmarthenshire County Council planning portal.
