The search for the next grassroots football team to be helped by Harry Redknapp has kicked off in Ammanford.

The famous football manager, together with several of the top-tier talents, will lend their expertise to mentor a struggling team through an unforgettable season filled with elite training and money-can't-buy experiences.

With Specsavers and Harry Redknapp teaming up again, they've begun their hunt in Ammanford to identify a grassroots team in dire need of assistance.

This community optical and audiology provider will grant one grassroots club a unique opportunity to transform into Specsavers' Best Worst Team with hands-on training from Mr Redknapp and memorable experiences typically available only to elite clubs.

Mr Redknapp's previous stint saw him pull up Cwm Albion, a team suffering consecutive defeats for three years and a shocking -191 goal difference, from the depths of despair.

Making one of the world's most significant grassroots comebacks, the team managed to score 50 goals and take seven wins under his supervision, leaving the title of the next Best Worst Team open.

Optimistically looking forward to the new season, Mr Redknapp said: "I’m over the moon to be teaming up with Specsavers again.

"If the terrific season with the lads at Cwm Albion is anything to go by, it’ll be a good laugh.

"I was bowled over by the grit, determination and spirit of last season’s Best Worst Team, so I can’t wait to meet the team that’s got what it takes to be this season’s worst.

"I’ve got some fantastic surprises up my sleeve, so let’s see who’s up for it!"

Specsavers will offer the UK’s most significant underdogs, with training from famous sportspeople, a season that they'll cherish.

The winning team would stand a chance to enjoy grand experiences that celebrate their success, elevate their performance, and repair their damaged pride.

Adding her insight on the initiative, Lisa Hale, head of consumer PR, social & brand activation, said: "Should’ve gone to Specsavers has become part of our British culture and for decades we’ve really celebrated those human moments when our eyesight and hearing let us down now and again.

"Grassroots football is filled with human moments – whether it’s a questionable on-field decision or a missed open goal, so are very proud to be investing in this underfunded area of culture once again."
