AN Amman Valley pensioner who recently celebrated his 65th birthday has donated £1,000 in lieu of gifts to Macmillan Cancer.
Billy Davies from Brynaman celebrated the occasion with a party at the village's industrial club.
Billy requested that all family and friends give monetary donations in lieu of gifts and cards to the cancer charity.
"I am so grateful to those who donated, this is a charity close to my heart," said Billy, who is currently undergoing treatment at Amman Valley hospital.
"I would also like to thank Macmillan who are helping me with my ongoing treatment."
Billy presented the cheques to Sue Reece, Macmillan fundraising manager for South West Wales.
"It is thanks to people like Billy that we can continue to support those living with cancer in Carmarthenshire," said Sue.
"Macmillan are always overwhelmed with the public's donations to the charity, we thank Billy for his very generous donation."
