PONTY SENIORS - A husband and wife team were the entertainers on Friday evening. Mr and Mrs Hywel Gwyn Evans of Cwmllynfell. Some time ago Mr Evans published a book called 20-20. It involved male and female characters from the village and surroundings. It is most interesting, having read the book. Mrs Evans dealt with the female side, and Mr Evans - the male side.
SARON CHAPEL RHYDYFRO - BEREAVEMENT - Mrs Mary Cordelia Hopkins late of Gellideg Road, and a former member of the chapel, passed away on November 3. Beloved wife of the late David James, dear aunt of Clifford and John. Also a much loved great aunt, greatly missed by Clifford, Shirley and family. The service was held at Saron Chapel on Friday, November 15, prior to interment in Chapel Cemetery. Officiating at the service was Rev G M Jones, at the organ was Emlyn Williams.
ST PETERS CHURCH, PONTARDAWE - On Sunday, November 10 the annual service of Remembrance was held at the above church. The march began at the bottom end of Herbert Street, stopping at the Cenotaph for the two minutes silence, laying of wreaths and extending the salute. The service at the church was led by the vicar Rev Gary Green. Noticeably absent were the number of standards unusually carried by the younger generation. But on the whole, everything went well for Pontardawe.
BEREAVEMENT - A local Alltwen man, Mr Ezekiel Gwynfor John died peacefully at Morriston hospital. Dearly loved husband of the late Olive, loving father of Wyn and David, father-in-law of Kathryn and Pat. Grandfather of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr John passed away on October 29. The funeral service was held at Alltwen Chapel, prior to cremation at Swansea. Officiating was the Rev G.M Jones.
