FOUR two-bedroom respite pods could be built in the Towy Valley for carers.

David Simmons of Elidyr Communities Trust has submitted a planning application to Carmarthenshire County Council to build four single storey, detached homes on land adjacent to Gwernpwll farmhouse in Rhandirmwyn, Llandovery.

The application states that the accommodation units will be for carers and used as respite accommodation only and will be built on a 0.17-hectare piece of land. The piece of land is currently agricultural land that is used within Coleg Eildyr’s outdoor teaching and learning space and is grazed seasonally.

The application is also for associated storm water and foul drainage schemes as well as access track and parking.

The walls of the properties would be made from larch timber cladding to the external walls in a natural finish with the roof made from insulated sandwich panels with PIR fire rated core and the outer skin coated in a slate grey finish. The windows and doors would be made with UPVC double glazing and anthracite grey finish.

The vehicle access and hardstanding would be made from compacted permeable stone access and parking bays would be finished with timber edging and there would be a single downward directional light over the front door in anthracite grey.

Storage and collection of waste would be managed through the existing waste management in the Coleg Elidyr site, with private contractors providing storage solutions, collecting and recycling waste from the whole site.

The plans can be seen in full at www.carmarthenshire.gov.wales/planningapplications and searching for the reference PL/06790.
