LLANDOVERY WI - We have had a very busy year! Mrs Pat Smith started the ball rolling in January with an informative account of her year as Mayor of Llandovery.
February Mr Dai Gealy talked about the Tonn Press and showed his collection of books about the Press which he had accrued from all over the world.
In March Mrs Kate Hannon brought samples of many kinds of lace, told us about the history of the craft and showed us the art of lace making.
April saw Mrs Hilary Kennelly giving advice on how to research a family tree with many interesting snippets of her own family history and unexpected findings.
In May, Mrs Sue Davies brought along examples of her quilting and showed us how various different types of quilting had developed over time.
June, Mrs Caroline Carpenter who was to have demonstrated felt making, showed us how to make unusual paper flowers instead. We all went home with examples we had made, together with a cucumber plant each, a gift from Caroline.
The visit to Ffoslas organised by Llandovery WI took place on the evening of Monday the 1st July 2013. A memorable evening was enjoyed by all.
At the July meeting Mr Lee Mattocks from the Llandovery YMCA spoke about the difficulties experienced by armed service personnel in adapting to civilian life. This was followed by Mrs Jeanette Jones demonstrating the art of Calligraphy to members, who then tried their hand at making bookmarks.
In September arrangements for the Sheep Festival were discussed followed by Mrs Jill Blud demonstrating how to make Banoffi Pie, ‘Real’ Custard and Eton Mess. A very yummy evening! We also had a visitor and two new members joined the group taking our numbers to twenty four.
Be sure to look out for us at the Sheep Festival and also for Carmarthen WI who will have their own stand in the Marquee.
At our next meeting on October 14 Annya of Aromatherapeutics will be with us to talk about her products and how they can enhance our well being. Croeso cynnes - a warm welcome awaits you. Come and join us and experience the friendship and fun of belonging to Llandovery WI.
Thank you to all the speakers and demonstrators who together with the help of members and the hospitality of the YMCA, have made the Llandovery WI an enjoyable and memorable experience.
