Llandeilo (177-3) beat Felinfoel (176 for 9)
LLANDEILO secured an important win against Felinfoel at Cae William.
From the outset, the home team went on the offensive, led by captain David Gascoyne, whocarefully orchestrated his fielding and bowling attack.
The Llandeilo bowlers peppered the Felinfoel batsmen with a barrage of fast and accurate deliveries, none more so than Chris Jenkins, whotore into the Felinfoel batting order.
Using a crafty combination of seam and pace, Jenkins returned impressive figures of seven wickets for 50 runs, which is already being regarded as the bowling highlight of the season.
Llandeilo’s bowling crusade was further fulfilled with some tight bowling from Anthony James, Steffan Roberts and Charlie Bleasdale.
After the interval, opening bat Gascoyne led the chase for runs, ably assisted by young Dafydd Jones (40), whose maturity and dexterity at the crease is growing on a weekly basis.
Despite all the concerted efforts of the Felinfoel bowlers, they were unable to prevent Gascoyne reaching his second century of the season with a fine display of offdives and square cuts that would not have looked out of place at the Oval.
The skipper proudlywalked back to the pavilion undefeated with 104 runs to add to his season’s tally.
Llandeilo won the game having reached 177 for three.
Gascoyne said: “It’s great to get our first win and it was really set up by a solid bowling and batting team performance.
“We were determined to win today and I cannot praise the players enough for all their efforts.”
Llandeilo travel to Kidwelly this weekend.
