A Coleg Sir Gâr equine studies lecturer from Llandybie has been named Welsh Instructor of the Year by the British Horse Society.
Ellen Griffiths, who shares her equestrian expertise with students at the college’s Pibwrlwyd campus in Carmarthen, was shortlisted with seven others for the Welsh regional competition which she won.
She will now compete again at the national competition in Warwickshire this October. The British Horse Society (BHS) competition is supported by The Worshipful Company of Saddlers and candidates have to show their equestrian skills teaching a ridden lunge and semi-private jump lesson. Ellen said: “I am proud of winning as it brings together all that I have ever worked for.”
At the national competition, she will be judged on her teaching ability and knowledge in specific areas of equine including stable management.
The BHS Instructor of the Year national final takes place at Warickshire College on October 9.
