Heavy rain put paid to any thoughts of cricket at the weekend and left both Ammanford sides frustrated at the lack of activity.

Reigning South Wales Premier League champions Ammanford Firsts remain rooted to the foot of the table with all hope of avoiding being dumped out of the division with the winners’ trophy still sitting in the cabinet.

With time rapidly ticking by, Saturday had offered Alun Evans’ men their best chance of escaping the drop with the scheduled arrival of third-from-bottom Port Talbot Town.

With just two games remaining, Ammanford will see the home clash against the steelmen as crucial to their hopes of survival.

The one additional fixture sees them travel to mid-table Bridgend Town, but with second-bottom Cardiff and Port Talbot both at home for what would have been their final league fixtures before the rain set in, anything can happen.

Amman’s great hope remains the possibility of leap-frogging both, with the position of Port Talbot in particular looking precarious.

As well as the trip to Ammanford, the steelmen facing the daunting task of hosting high-flying Ynysgwern with victory essential to save their season.

The weekend’s cancellations also left Ammanford Seconds in limbo.

Already with a game in hand on those above them, fourth-placed Ammanford are looking to chase down league leaders 52 point advantage with three games remaining.
