LLANDYBIE bowler Aled Howells has been crowned the best in the country after scooping the Welsh Bowls Under 25s Singles champion.

Twenty-three-year-old Aled beat Paul Taylor 21-18 in the semi final stage before romping to a 21-8 final win against Nathan Scoot.

Aled will be looking forward to the summer of 2014, as it’s when he will represent Wales in the British Isles Under 25s Singles Finals at Leamington Spa.

“My grandfather Roy Howells, who played for Llandybie Bowls Club, got me into bowls 10 years ago and that’s when I began playing for his club,” said the newly-crowned champion.

“After three years there, I switched to Ammanford Park, who I’ve been with ever since.

“I’ve got to say that I wouldn’t be at the level I am today if it hadn’t been for Ammanford Park.

“The quality of their bowlers and the high standard they play at has really helped me get where I am.

“It was great to win the National title at Llandrindod Wells, especially as I beat the hot favourite on the way.”
