Penrhiwceiber Rangers 2 Ammanford 0
Ammanford lost a keenly contested midweek match 2-1 on Wednesday with Mathew Fisher grabbing the only goal when they played host to local rivals Garden Village, but hoped to set things right when they visited Penrhiwceiber Rangers on Saturday.
But sadly, they came up short again and went down 2-0.
Rangers were the first to fashion an opening on 10 minutes, but the Ammanford were fortunate to see a decent chance for the hosts flash over the crossbar.
The visitors reply came soon after when an Owen James effort was saved by the home keeper.
With the game swinging from end to end, Rangers next chance came on 20 minutes when a well-struck effort was parried by Ammanford keeper Jamie Rano.
The loose b all was fired home but the lineman’s flag ruled out the Rangers goal.
But as the half wore on, the hosts began to dominate and Ammanford were forced into desperate defending.
The pressure finally told however and the hosts went 1-0 on 30 minutes.
The second half opened with Ceiber squandering a great chance to double their lead on 55 minutes, but the visitors took heart from the home lapse.
Slowly Ammanford found their rhythm and were able to apply their own pressure, pegging Rangers back for long periods.
The visitors thought they had levelled when James linked well with Ben Soal only for the home keeper to pull a stunning save.
Without Ammanford dominating, and earning a string of set-piece opportunities, the leveller seemed inevitable, but as the visitors pressed forward, Rangers burst forward on the break in the dying minutes to double their lead and put the game out of Ammanford’s reach.
There was however some good news as Ammanford’s new signing – centre-half Rhys Owen, formerly of Caerau, put on a man-of-the-match performance.
Ammanford now have a two week break before they travel to Garden Village in the Welsh Cup on Saturday, September 14.
