Division Three
Cwmamman Institute 2 Cwmamman United 3
After last week’s convincing win, United travelled to their struggling namesakes high on confidence, but they suffered an early blow when Institute opened the scoring.
United keeper Rob Jones was caught in two minds over a lofted free-kick, allowing the home striker to head into an empty net.
But United reacted superbly with Nathan McNeil and Robert Shannon’s causing havoc on the right flank.
The visitors drew level from a corner just before half-time when and man-of-the-match Stevie Hughes stooped to head home a Kieran O’Brien cross.
Some stern words during the interval had the desired effect on United and Liam Soroka lifted the ball over the despairing home keeper to put the visitors in front.
Rather than extend their advantage however, the lead saw United grow over-confident and sloppy.
When Josh Medwin was muscled off the ball, Institute were able to level.
United reacted positively and threw on two attacking substitutes in the form of Neil Phillips and Liam Hughes.
The visitors were rewarded when Shannon’s acrobatic effort found the bottom corner to give him his eighth of the season.
Institute mustered a late rally, but United held on to claim all three points and climb to fourth in the table.
United entertain Llanwern on Saturday.
