Division Six West
Blaenau 19 Llansawel 7
After three tough away games, Blaenau welcomed Llansawel to Cae Waldron for their first home game of the new season and the hostd made hay in their own backyard.
From the off, the ferocious front five of the Badger pack had the upper hand at scrum time, dismantling a young Llansawel pack at every set-piece, resulting in the visitors opting for passive scrums for the remaining 70 minutes of the game.
But the move failed to dampen the hosts’ dominance and a good catch-and-drive from a solid home line-out saw lock Daniel Mepham race over for the first try.
Early in the second half, the Blaenau pack was again key in setting the platform for prolific try-scoring centre Nick Davies to burst over under the posts. Ellis Hanner converted.
A number of territory-securing carries by forwards allowed No8 Dylan Parry to crash over in the 70th minute, converted from near the touchline by livewire outside-half Hanner.
Yellow cards to skipper Chris Rooke and prop Bob Harries in the final quarter took the wind out of Blaenau’s sails as they went in search of a bonus point.
Blaenau still have much to do before they visit Llandybie in their next league game.
