Division Four West
Aberaeron 6 Penybanc 10
Banc went to the seaside in search of their fourth win of the season and claimed a vital victory after a hard-fought contest.
With the beautiful backdrop of the Irish Sea, the visitors were in confident mood, but it became obvious within the opening 10 minutes that the rugby was not about to match the scenery.
Penalties were the order of the day with not many going Penybanc’s way.
Too much indiscipline amongst the Tigers’ ranks gave the home team chance to clear their lines time and again after a lot of early Banc pressure before a flowing move out wide saw prop Steffan Charles popping up in support to dive over to open the visitors account.
After a productive half-time chat, Banc hoped to push on after the break, but the referee’s whistle continued to play the biggest part in the game.
Dangerous centre Christian Madge went over for a second score to give the travelling Banc support hope of a final flourish, but a yellow card and a ruck offence gave the hosts two penalties to pull the homesters right back into the game.
The Tigers had chances to extend their lead with the backs making some nice breaks, but good home defence kept us out and it was a relief to hear the final whistle.
There were some good performances however, lock Carl Rees tackled manfully all day and flanker Cellan Harris was always in the thick of things.
Behind the scrum, Madge and Wayne Price looked dangerous every time they had the ball but on the whole, this game will go down as a missed opportunity for Penybanc. Banc have no game this weekend.
